The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.

2024年12月16日 · A new North American tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is set to launch September 9, 2025 at The Kennedy Center. Directed by Tony winner Jack O’Brien , the tour will continue into 2026, with stops in more than 55 cities.

Starring Mary Martin as Maria and Theodore Bikel as Captain von Trapp, the original Broadway production of The Sound of Music premiered at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 16, 1959, where it won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Leading Actress.

The Sound of Music is set in Austria on the eve of World War II. The story follows Maria, a young woman who becomes the governess for the von Trapp family. As Maria brings joy and music into their strict household, she forms a special bond with the seven von Trapp children and their father, Captain von Trapp.
