The flag of the Czech Republic (Czech: státní vlajka České republiky) is the same as the flag of the former Czechoslovakia. Upon the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in December 1992, the Czech Republic kept the Czechoslovak flag while Slovakia adopted its own flag .

When Czechs, Slovaks, and Ruthenians united in 1918 to form Czechoslovakia, a simple bicolour of white over red stripes was used as a national flag. This was considered inadequate, however. Though it included the national colours of the Czechs, the flag contained no symbolism for the other ethnic groups of the country.

The flag of Czechoslovakia was introduced on 30th of March in 1920, and was taken over as flag of Czechia in preparation for the separation of Slovakia on 17th of December in 1992. It shows two horizontal stripes in white and red and on the pole a blue until the middle of the flag reaching isosceles triangle.

Czechoslovakia adopted its first flag based on the flag of Bohemia, which had red and white stripes, adding a blue triangle in 1920. This flag was banned under the Nazi regime, and a three-striped horizontal flag was used.
