2023年2月11日 · 8K@60Hz and 4K@120Hz and 144Hz worked fine using the built-in HDMI port. However HiDPI resolutions are strangely fluctutaing/limited based on the display configuration (running 15.1) indeed, (both using HDMI and USB-C).

So, it is safe to conclude that if we connect a monitor with usb-c to displayport cable, it will run better because the connection is displayport -> displayport? If we connect it with usb-c to hdmi cable, there is conversion displayport -> hdmi. Is this correct?

2009年7月24日 · OK, super quick, not very detailed summary. There are two basic video signals in common use for computer monitors. Displayport and HDMI. Both Thunderbolt and USB-C are actually sending video through Displayport, with extra bandwidth available for charging and data (if you want to use extra ports on the monitor or daisy chain devices etc).

2024年2月15日 · Make sure the display isn't set to DisplayPort 1.1. HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cannot be better than USB-C to Mini DisplayPort. It uses a DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter. DisplayPort 1.2 can do 17.28 Gbps but HDMI 2.0 can only do 14.4 Gbps. Maybe if it support chroma sub sampling 4:2:0? It's complicated.

2021年6月9日 · DisplayPort 2.0 even specifies USB-C as the official port. Generally, even comparing DisplayPort and HDMI there aren't too many differences to worry about. The main difference is available bandwidth. DisplayPort 1.4 handles ~32GBps of bandwidth, while HDMI 2.0 handles ~18Gbps of bandwidth. HDMI 2.1 takes that up to ~48Gbps* of bandwidth.

With a DisplayPort connection, it will run at 165Hz with adaptive sync (AMD FreeSync2 or Nvidia G-Sync Compatible).

2022年1月10日 · These cables only go from DisplayPort (computer) to HDMI (monitor), not the other way around. They are not bidirectional. You'd need an active HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2 converter that is guaranteed to "do" 346.5 MHz pixel clock for 1920×1080 at 144 Hz (this is assuming your monitor uses standardised CVT-RB timings).

2014年12月11日 · HDMI and DVI share the same "language", while DisplayPort is different. However, Dual-Mode DisplayPort will be backwards compatible with the lower resolutions of HDMI and DVI, which results in no loss. See here. I use an AMD FirePro GPU that has four DP outputs which I use active adapters to output DVI.

2020年12月12日 · DisplayPort 1.2 will allow 10 bpc while HDMI 2.0 can only do 8 bpc when doing 1080p 240Hz RGB or 4:4:4. HDMI can do 10 bpc with chroma sub sampling (4:2:2 or 4:2:0) at that refresh rate. If you don't care about 10 bpc or if you are using 190Hz or less (which is 3 times greater than the usual 60Hz), then HDMI is fine. It will save you a USB-C port.

2017年3月7日 · I hope someone can help make sense of this. I called Apple and they didn't know. I've noticed that when using a DisplayPort cable vs HDMI that the transparencies are much smoother. I will post photos to demonstrate. I know that this is expected behavior probably and that nothing is “wrong”, but I want to know the technical reason for it.
