The Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced that Salman Abdurashid Mohamed, 16, and Mubashir Nasir Ali, 18, were arrested on Friday and charged with 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and 2nd-degree riot.

A 17-year-old Fridley High School student-athlete was seriously injured after prosecutors say he was struck in the head with a metal tire iron at a basketball game.

School resource officers responded, with the school placed on lockdown while the players were moved to safety. The varsity game was postponed, according to the Robbinsdale Cooper website. The suspects had left the school grounds, but they were arrested by New Hope police officers.
