As Respawn’s battle royale Apex Legends nears its sixth birthday, EA has said it’s failing to do the business for the company, and outlined plans for what it called Apex Legends 2.0. Speaking in a financial call on its third quarter results,

Respawn's battle royale game Apex Legends debuted six years ago this month, and parent company Electronic Arts has now hinted that an "Apex 2.0" could be in the works--but it won't launch soon.

However, don’t expect “Apex 2.0” to arrive anytime soon. Wilson confirmed that the “more major update” will only be launched after the next Battlefield game, likely to keep both of the publisher’s shooters from cannibalising each other in terms of retaining players. As EA puts it, “we probably wouldn't drop that on top of a Battlefield launch.”
