Nick Kyrgios has been replaced in Australia's Davis Cup squad by Aleksandar Vukic after the former Wimbledon finalist suffered an abdominal strain in the lead-up to the Australian Open.

The Davis Cup return of Nick Kyrgios is over before it started opening the door for Aleksandar Vukic to make his debut in this weekend’s tie against Sweden as reward for his breakout Australian Open performance.

Lleyton Hewitt has named an altered Australian Davis Cup team ahead of their qualifying tie against Sweden. Despite being named in the initial side, both Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson have withdrawn through injury.

Nick Kyrgios’ hopes of returning to the Davis Cup scene are over for now, but his injury has opened the door for an Australian Open hero to make his debut.
