Following the death of at least two people and several people being injured, the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Tennessee on Thursday.

The tornadoes, which also injured three people and caused widespread damage, reached wind speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

GAINESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Jackson County on Thursday night. Surveyors from the Nashville office gained preliminary information that the tornado had wind speeds up to 100 mph and was 500 yards wide. The tornado was on the ground for eight minutes for roughly four miles.
