Just as they did in their season opener, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics overwhelmed the rival Knicks in a 131-104 route Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Jayson Tatum scored 19 of his 40 points in the third quarter Saturday night for the visiting Boston Celtics, who led wire-to-wire in a 131-104 rout of the New York Knicks.

- The offensive struggles continued for New York, but Jalen Brunson was doing a good job of getting to the line to keep them in the game. The captain was the only Knick in double figures at the halftime break as he drilled 11 free throws to bring his total to 18 for the half.

Before Saturday night, the top-10 spots on the Boston Celtics’ all-time scoring list hadn’t changed in 12 years. It’s hard to crack such a legendary list featuring 10 Hall of Famers, all with at least one NBA championship to their name.

Tatum torched the Knicks for 40 points in 37 minutes, checking out for good with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. He drained seven 3s on 14 attempts and went 13-of-26 from the field in his latest Garden masterpiece — just months after lighting the Knicks up for 37 points and 10 assists on 8-of-11 shooting from deep on opening night.
