It’s a definitely worth to visit place! There is a short walking (15-20min round walk) from the parking. View is really awesome! You can go there in any hour from sunrise to sunset - every time slot … UlyanaInStars的完整评论
Can you walk along the beach and see all of the Apostles up close? At low tide obviously. Or are the Apostles too far apart? There are steps that go to the beach. Can you see the Apostles from beach level using the steps? I am from Canada. Are Feb/Mar/Apr time-frames suitable times to visit this area in terms of weather? Thanks for the time.

No....you can’t....not accessible....however further down, there is a spot called Gibson steps....which you access the beach. Thanks
Thoughts on driving from Melbourne to Port Campbell, but driving inland on the A1. Then have an early start on the second day and drive the great ocean road back to Melbourne. Idea was to get to the 12 Apostles by sunset and then not having to drive along the great ocean road after dark. Does this itinerary make sense or not really? Thanks for any suggestions/help.

You could make that work. Depending on time of year, sunset will determine how long you have and such. We were there in late April and drove the GOH all day, checked into our hotel in Port Campbell, then drove back to see sunset at the 12 Apostles. It worked perfect. When we left, we drove inland to get back to Melbourne. Id say the biggest issue you may find will be the ability to tour all of the national park spots, drink some coffee at roadside stands, find kangaroo and linger a bit at beautiful stops, etc. knowing you are due back in Melbourne. Having said that, make the best of the time you have. its an awesome drive with great scenery, people and views.

Australia has a strict no pets allowed except for service dogs at any of the reserves, preserves or national parks. If the pet is traveling with you it has to stay in the car. There are signs in many of the national parks letting people know about this. So definitely no walking of you dog at 12 Apostles. From the Office of Environment and Heritage "Domestic pets can be a threat to native animals, and can disrupt other people's enjoyment of parks and reserves. The NPWS wants to maintain the natural environment and visitor enjoyment of these parks, while promoting equitable access to parks for people with disabilities. The NPWS therefore provides park access for trained assistance animals, but access for other pets needs to be restricted." You can google pet policy national parks Australia and you will see the page I am quoting from which has a title pets in parks policy As for accommodation there are plenty of options in the area. The caravan parks are primarily privately owned and campers and pet policies are up to the owners. Generally I don't think they restrict pets in the campgrounds as long as they are not inside the parks. I used trip advisor to get an idea of the possible places to stay and the price range. Google Port Campbel visitor information center and check out the webpagel.

We drove the inland route from 12 Apostles via Colac back to Melbourne in Summer (extended daylight). We had good GPS reception and followed the route easily. It is single lane each way and at dusk and night you must watch for kangaroos etc. We had two drivers and swapped half way. We stopped at Colac and had Macdonalds (which is open 24hours). It was a long drive but worth the effort!
